In 2019 Vanessa Lann received a commission from Brundibar Arts Festival in Newcastle-Gateshead (UK), an event honoring artists who perished during the Holocaust, and celebrating those who survived. This resulted in the piano quintet One/Life, inspired by the extraordinary biography of Hanni Begg (1929-2017), who as a young girl living in Berlin managed to escape the camps, eventually starting a new life and family in Great Britain after the war.
